Kimberley Abuschinow
instructor
WindowsXP - Home, Intro |
Kimberly is currently an IT Professional Student, as
well as a Stay-At-Home Mother of Three during the day. Her computer
experience ranges as the times have changed over the last 15 years. Says
Kimberley "I began in data entry, advanced to word processing, then came
the invention of Windows and the GUI Interface. That opened up a brand
new world for me and I've worked on most of the previous versions of
Windows to some degree. A hobby for me is seeing how far into the
operating systems I can get. How much tweaking and pulling can I do to
really customize it? You'll often find me on a Friday evening in front
of the computer taking a video course, or looking for ways to advance my
own knowledge in computers. In addition to teaching this course, I may
also have the opportunity to tutor incoming students that feel they need
assistance with the Networking Technician program I'm currently enrolled
in. I plan to graduate this coming September, keep on furthing my
education on computers and, continue to teach others how they too can
take advantage of the Information Technology that is so much a part of
today's world." Some of Kim's hobbies include html/vbscript stationery
for outlook express as well as searching for windows tweaks. Look in the
future for some of these topics to also be included here.

Fred Clark
Instructor:
Beginning Photography |
Fred is married (36yrs) with two grown
children and lives in the thriving metropolis of Index (population give
or take 100) just west of Stevens Pass in the North Cascade Mountains in
the State of Washington.
He worked as a C.P.A in the Seattle/East Side area for several years
until his children were grown and out on their own. Having become
disenchanted (most people call it burn out) with the C.P.A. business he
and his wife decided to sell their home in Kirkland and seek a more
simple and satisfying lifestyle. They now live on the banks of the
Skykomish River and are enjoying it tremendously. Fred still does
accounting and tax work, but most of it is from his home and has become
a big fan of tele commuting
Fred has been involved with photography for approximately 25 years and
would considers himself in the "serious amateur" ranks. He says, "My
first love in photography was black and white and while I shoot mostly
color these days, I feel that a well crafted black and white print is
one of the ultimate photographic viewing and emotional experiences.
While I do have a fully equipped black & white home darkroom (and still
develop my own black & white film on the occasions I shoot it) I have
"gone digital" for the printing side of things for both black & white
and color. Photoshop is a tremendous time saver and an extremely
versatile tool for this area of photography."
"Photography has given me a tremendous opportunity to see the world
around me in a completely different way and has taught me to appreciate
both the potential ( good and bad) and the place of humankind in the
natural world. Life serves all a full plate - enjoy it."

her transition from painting with a brush to painting with a mouse was a
natural one. As internet technology advanced, she soon became interested
in CSS and its benefits.
She says "CSS is exciting, logical, and easy to learn. So many effects
are possible with style sheets that cannot be achieved using HTML alone.
You have almost unlimited choices to add some wonderful looks to your
site. This six week course will team your HTML knowledge with some basic
CSS rules and you will soon be creating some magic of your own.

Lindsay Froehlich
Instructor:
Basic Intellectual Property, Copyright and Contract law |
I recently completed my Associates Degree in
Paralegal Studies and have performed extensive class work and research
in a variety of legal disciplines. I worked in a law firm devoted to
contract, business, and probate law, where I learned that as much as I
love legal theory and research, I dislike filing and time keeping even
more, a revelation that led me to teaching.
I also own an editing, indexing, and manuscript preparation business,
SabreQuill (www.SabreQuill.com),
and work with fiction, non-fiction, research papers, and various other
presentations requiring either extensive grammar and structural work or
simply an unbiased pair of eyes. I think I enjoy editing and the law for
the same reason: it’s all in the details.
On a personal note, I have an amazing son, nearly nine, who continues to
teach me things about myself and the world daily (whether or not I am
ready to know them), and a significant other who knows that I read
grammar books for fun, yet he loves me anyway.

Sara Froehlich
Instructor:
Blade Pro/Super Blade Pro;
Dreamsuite Gel;
Eye Candy;
Xenofex;
Freehand 10, Intro;
Fireworks 4, Intro;
Fireworks MX, Intro;
Expression: Beyond Basics;
PhotoShop Elements - From the Ground Up;
PhotoShop Elements;
PhotoShop Elements, Level 2 |
I am the mother of four, 26, 24, 17 and 12, and
grandmother of two perfect grandsons (ok, perfect might be pushing it a
tad but it's a grandmother's prerogative!). My husband Tom and I have
been married for almost 28 years. I've been involved with computers
since the mid-80's when the principal at the parochial school I was
librarian for decided he wanted the card catalog on computer and said,
"That's a computer. Look at that part. Type on that part." Many stacks
of 5-¼ " floppies later, I had a basic understanding of the Apple-IIe,
dot matrix printers and the program Print Shop. Not to mention markers
and crayons if the desired output was to be in color.
Things have come a long way, and my abilities have grown along with the
computers and programs I use. I've probably tried almost every graphics
program out there and have many installed, but the ones I use the most
are Photoshop 6.01, Illustrator 9.02, Expression 2, Painter 6 and 7, and
Canvas 8. I have a small home business doing notecards, some
personalized for clients with their own photos, some using my own photos
or art. I do a family newsletter that goes to 52 people bi-monthly,
usually 14 pages, and am learning photo restoration. And I will also be
taking classes, because I love to learn new programs, especially in the
graphics/page layout field.

Valerie Giles
Instructor:
Graphic Design for Web & Print, Part 1;
Graphic Design for Web & Print, Part 2;
Color Theory for Web & Print |
Valerie Giles has been involved in “art” all her
life. In the early 90’s she decided to take it from the hobby level to
the career level. She went back to school and studied design. In 1994
she opened her graphic design studio, and found that she spent many
hours not just designing for her clients, but also mentoring them.
Valerie enjoys teaching and sharing ideas with others so it was a
natural fit to add formal instruction to her schedule. Since 1998, she
has been instructing at the college level in Graphic Design, Color
Theory and various software application such as Adobe Photoshop,
Illustrator, PageMaker and QuarkXPress. She brings years of hands-on
knowledge to her Graphic Design and Color Theory courses and has adapted
them over the years for both print and web design. Her Eclectic Academy
online courses are informative, challenging and easy to follow.
She and her family live on the west coast, where she juggles clients,
student instruction and family.

Kay Hoffmann
Instructor:
Bitmap Graphics, Intro;
Vector Graphics, Intro;
|
I've taught vocational computer use to adults since
1990, and in the public schools before that. Have always (50 plus
years) produced art work and photography on the side. In the past, have
done layout/darkroom work for a weekly newspaper, and periodical/book
illustrations. I've loved computers since my first Commodore 64 and find
no conflict between "real" art and graphics produced with newer
technology. Shareware is a preoccupation and I shamelessly encourage my
students to pursue that vice as well. Am looking forward to meeting a
new group of those students on-line!

Madeleine Jacobs
Instructor:
Basic Drawing;
Basic Watercolor 101;
Basic Watercolor 201;
PSP Painting;
PSP 8, Practical Applications;
Beginning Pastels;
Painting with Painter |
Having lived for so many years on a
working ranch in Wyoming, Madeleine is well equipped to depict the
western way of life that is loved by those who live it and a source of
fascination for cowboy enthusiasts everywhere!
"I've spent a lot of time photographing and painting the familiar things
around me, including my children. Much of the wildlife I love so much
was actually in my 'backyard', which included deer in my rosebushes! My
art career was put on hold for many years while I raised 4 boys but that
was an advantage in itself. In fact, I used my youngest son, Tyler, for
a model so often that we would sigh, stick out his hand and say, "Only
if you pay me, mom!" Art is a personal thing, in a way. It's an
expression in itself of what the artist feel and believes; but it
becomes a public expression...a celebration of life....when it's
finished and the artist allows the world to share the view. Imagine a
world without art----I can't. I currently live in South Dakota near the
Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian reservations and continue to paint western
life as I love to see it. While most of my work is in the western and
wildlife genre, I especially love to paint children!
During the spring and summer months, I'm often on the road traveling to
shows in various states. My work is available in Wyoming, Montana,
Colorado, South Dakota and Washington state galleries as well as in gift
shops.
.In addition to creating her own work, Madeleine also founded the
Artists Gallery Club to unite artists on the web, has developed two
newsletters for the artistic community and also teaches online art
classes at www.armchairpaintclasses.com as well as standard classes in
pencil techniques, watercolor and glaswork.
